NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri Foundation Access Project

ABOUT THE ACCESS PROJECT

The reproductive choice movement is inherently tied to issues of access. The Access Project, a grant-funded, three-phase initiative was developed and directed to address hospital and pharmacy access specific to Missouri and Missouri women with the goal of education and mobilization in order to increase access to reproductive health care services in the state. The Project endeavors to bring the significant issue of hospital and pharmacy access to attention through education within the public and the political world. More importantly, it strives to connect the public to the political process, and to illustrate their interdependence.

The first phase focused on researching the obstacles to accessing reproductive health care services within hospital and pharmacies. We published the results of our research in The Access Project: An Assessment of Reproductive Health Services in Missouri. (The report will soon be accessible through our website, and hard copies are available at the office, call 314.531.8616.) The second and third phases, which we are presently implementing, involve outreach, education and mobilization.

The Project attends to the populations of women who are most vulnerable to issues of access, such as low-income and rural women. The guiding and central ideal of the Project is to take the data accumulated and move it to empower individuals to create real changes in the lives of Missouri women seeking the full range of reproductive health services. We undertook this goal and hope that this report will provide readers with both an accurate illustration of access within Missouri, but more importantly, a desire to work toward protecting our freedom of choice.
