Preliminary Results from our Historic Pharmacy Access Survey Are In...
In March and April of 2005, the NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri Foundation conducted a Pharmacy Access Survey of all pharmacies in Missouri. This survey is the most comprehensive of its kind.
The results indicate that women in 87% of Missouri counties either lack access to EC or are vulnerable to pharmacist refusals in their communities.
We found that seventy-one (71%) of the 920 Missouri pharmacies surveyed do not stock emergency contraception and only 29% of those pharmacies will order EC.
Equally alarmingly, we found in our historic survey that 64% of Missouri pharmacies that do not stock or order EC cite a moral objection when asked about their refusal to dispense EC.
Next Tuesday, we will be releasing the complete results of this groundbreaking survey ~ so stay tuned. We will need your help in advocating for ways to address this reproductive health care crisis!
