Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies (CARE)

 

 

  • In the United States, 1 in 6 women have reported a rape or attempted rape during her lifetime[1]
  • 32,000 women become pregnant each year because of rape[2]
  • In 2008, 90,427 forcible rapes were reported in the United States[3]
  • Based on findings from the National Violence Against Women Survey conducted in 2000, it is estimated that 302,091 women are raped in the United Stateseach year[4]
  • 16 states require emergency rooms to provide information about emergency contraception to victims of sexual assault, but only 11 states require emergency rooms to dispense emergency contraception upon request[5]
