A New Name, But The Same Vital Mission!
At our annual meeting on November 19th, the Missouri NARAL members in attendance voted unanimously to change the organization's name from Missouri NARAL to NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri.
First, the group considered that the new name retains "NARAL," a widely respected name and one which has, for over thirty years, been synonymous with effective political action.
Second, they considered that the new name, especially in a state like Missouri, is likely to strengthen, build and make even more visible Missouri's pro-choice majority.
Since NARAL Pro-Choice America changed its name, they have learned that some anti-choice leaders have begun instructing their activists to avoid using "Pro-Choice America" and to continuing using only NARAL. This speaks to the effectiveness of the name change and we should expect the same tactic here in Missouri.
The next step in the process was the amendment of the articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State. The necessary paperwork was filed and on November 24, 2003 it was official; we became NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri. We hope you will now proudly and loudly call yourselves members of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri!
I am Pro-Choice Missouri! Are you?
Best, Carolyn Sullivan Executive Director
