NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri PAC Hosts “Choice Chef” Competition

Modified: 05/29/2008

NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri PAC is hosting “Choice Chef,” a cooking competition for pro-choice Missouri political candidates on June 1 at Temple Israel in Ladue. Designed as a spoof both of political conventions and caucuses as well as of the popular cable show “Top Chef,” the event will feature celebrity judges Sen. Joan Bray, Sen. Jeff Smith, and County Councilwoman Barbara Fraser.

18 pro-choice candidates will vie to be crowned “Choice Chef.” Among those testing their culinary skills are Attorney General candidates Rep. Margaret Donnelley and Rep. Jeff Harris; Rep. Jeanette Mott Oxford; Rep. Rachel Storch; Rep. Robin Wright-Jones; Rep. Clint Zweifel; and Rep. Juanita Head Walton. These elected officials will cross their butter knives with General Assembly candidates Jeanne Kirkton, Stacey Newman, Jill Schupp, Joan Landmann, Steve Brown, and Deb Lavender among others.

Each aspiring “Choice Chef” may bring up to four delegates pledged to “vote” for his or her dish. Roving superdelegate Rep. Sam Komo is authorized to flip pledged delegates to other contenders and to exercise his superpowers to influence the judges. All guests will sample each dish while sipping mimosas and will vote for their favorite dish. The winner of the “Choice Chef” title will receive a campaign contribution from NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri PAC.

Tickets to the brunch event are $35, and sales will benefit NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri PAC, which works to elect pro-choice candidates. Tickets must be purchased in advance and ticket purchases are not tax-deductible. The event is being planned by NARAL’s Associate Board, a group of young professionals being groomed for leadership in the pro-choice movement.
