NARAL Pro-Choice America Applauds Senate's Confirmation
of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to Supreme Court
Washington, D.C. – Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, hailed the U.S. Senate for voting to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor as the next associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Today's historic vote is a sign of progress for Americans who want a Supreme Court that values individual freedom and privacy,” Keenan said. “During the hearings, Judge Sotomayor articulated several times that the constitutional right to privacy includes the right to choose. Her responses to privacy-related questions, along with the strong support she received from key pro-choice allies in the Senate, are among the reasons pro-choice Americans support this nomination. We congratulate soon-to-be Justice Sotomayor, whose impressive legal credentials now include the title of associate justice on the nation's highest court.”
